DBS Hong Kong: #TrustYourSpark Anti-Scam Campaign

Use this as a reference

Project Background: The People Working Behind the Scenes

As digital financial services develop, fraud methods also change. Through its #TrustYourSpark campaign, DBS Hong Kong wanted to introduce the support provided by its Financial Crime and Security Services (FCSS) team. Darkroom Studio’s brief was to bring this behind-the-scenes line of defence into view and explain the people and processes involved in the bank’s security work.

Visual Approach: Data with a Human Story

We used a contemporary visual language to make the security subject accessible:

Making Threats Visible: Dark red colour and glitch-style motion graphics gave form to threats such as hacking, phishing emails and high-risk transactions, creating a sense of urgency around otherwise invisible processes.

Professional Work with a Personal Perspective: The film followed FCSS team member Jackie’s account of intervening in a fraud case. Her experience gave data analysis a human context and connected the work with the person it was intended to help.

Animated Data Flows: Line and shape animation illustrated the monitoring and interception processes described in the film, providing a visual explanation of the bank’s systems.

In Use: A Brand Story About Fraud Prevention

The film made complex fraud-prevention work easier to follow through a personal visual story. It gave DBS material to explain its team’s proactive approach and introduce security topics to a public audience.

Q&A

How did the film connect #TrustYourSpark with fraud prevention?+

This chapter of #TrustYourSpark focused on protection. Through a staff member’s experience and explanations of the team’s work, the film presented the bank’s response to changing fraud methods. Darkroom Studio linked that work with the campaign’s wider message of supporting people as they pursue their plans.

How did Darkroom Studio make serious fraud-prevention information engaging?+

To explain scam techniques and security processes, we combined motion graphics with live-action footage. Clear visual symbols represented abstract online risks such as phishing links and impersonation, giving viewers a more direct way to understand the subject.

Why do banks produce ongoing security-awareness films?+

As customers use digital banking, clear explanations of fraud risks and security processes remain useful. This type of film can support financial-literacy communications while showing the people and work behind a bank’s security approach. For DBS, it provided a format for discussing these responsibilities with customers and the wider public.

How can a finance or education video avoid feeling dry?+

Start with a human reason to care, then use graphics and editing to clarify the information instead of relying only on voiceover.

Can this type of film become reels?+

Yes. If the message is modular from the start, each section can become a standalone social short.
