AFRC — Accounting for the Future: An AI-Generated Film

Use this as a reference

Project Background: Using Technology to Explore the Future

The AFRC Regional Regulatory Forum 2025 centred on “Accounting for the Future”. With discussions of AI, ESG and new technologies shaping the profession, AFRC wanted an opening film that moved beyond a conventional format. Darkroom Studio chose an AI-led production workflow so that the film’s production approach reflected the forum’s technology theme.

Visual Approach: AI-Generated Abstract Imagery

The project used AI-generated imagery and voiceover, exploring how generative AI could contribute to a commercial event film:

Making Abstract Ideas Visible: AI-generated imagery represented integrity as a solid digital shield and ethics as a guiding compass. These surreal, futuristic 3D-style visuals gave form to ideas that would be difficult to show through location filming alone.

Digital Trees and Connections: A growing data tree and interlocking puzzle elements symbolised the accounting profession’s continuing development and collaboration in the age of AI.

AI Voiceover: An AI-generated voiceover used a calm, precise delivery to complement the technological imagery and the professional setting of a regulatory forum.

In Use: Opening a Discussion About Change

The opening film introduced the forum to regulators and industry participants from across the Asia-Pacific region, setting the scene for discussion of how accounting and technology might develop together.

Production breakdown

Objective

Use fully AI-generated imagery to turn future-facing institutional messaging into a visual kickoff film.

Challenge

AI video can become inconsistent or vague. An institutional opener still needs clarity, control and a professional tone.

Approach

  • Defined the narrative and visual references before generation so the imagery stayed on brief.
  • Used generative AI for future-facing scenes that would be difficult to shoot, then curated and finished the output manually.
  • Controlled runtime, music and visual progression around the live event opening context.

Deliverables

  • Fully AI kickoff film
  • Generative visual scenes
  • Event playback version
  • Website and social versions

Reference value

Relevant for event openers, future themes, institutional campaigns, innovation launches and concept films with low live-action requirements.

Q&A

What was the subject of the film commissioned by the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council?+

“GenAI: Accounting for the Future” explored how generative AI could influence accounting and financial reporting. It introduced questions about efficiency, audit quality and collaboration between people and technology, encouraging the profession to consider these changes.

What production approach did Darkroom Studio use?+

To reflect the AI theme, the visual design combined AI-generated imagery with motion graphics. Using AI to tell a story about AI gave the film a futuristic visual character and offered ways to represent abstract concepts such as data processing and neural networks.

Why might a professional regulator produce a film about technology trends?+

A trend-focused film can make complex professional topics accessible and introduce a regulator’s perspective to stakeholders. For AFRC, the format provided a concise starting point for discussion about digital change and the future of the profession.

Can AI video work for formal institutional events?+

Yes, if the narrative, style control and human finishing are handled properly. It should not be left to generation tools alone.

Does fully AI video mean no production team is needed?+

No. Creative direction, prompt design, shot selection, edit, grade, sound and delivery management are still required.
