Project Background: Exploring the Fresh Character of French Wheat Beer

The Blanc Tasting Bar was a central part of the L’Atelier 1664 experience, introducing visitors to the citrus character of 1664 Blanc. Darkroom Studio’s short film used Hins Cheung’s playful performance to translate the tasting experience into fresh, lively images and introduce the French beer to audiences.

Visual Approach: Colour and Rhythm

To engage social media viewers quickly, the film combined saturated colour with a brisk pace:

A Vibrant Colour Palette: Large areas of “1664 blue” contrasted with vivid lemon yellow. The combination created a striking image and visually linked the blue bottle with its citrus flavour.

Playful Interaction: Hins Cheung brought a relaxed, playful character to the camera. From peeking around the set to picking up a beer, his movements worked with light swing jazz to create an easy-going expression of “Good Taste with a Twist”.

Vertical-First Composition: The framing was designed for full-screen mobile viewing. Centring Hins and the large 1664-branded arch kept the performer and brand identity prominent in Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts placements.

In Use: Giving Flavour a Visual Identity

The film expressed 1664 Blanc’s fresh character through Hins Cheung’s performance and a clear set of colours and visual cues. It was designed to make the tasting experience recognisable and invite viewers to explore the pop-up venue.

Q&A

How does the Blanc Tasting Bar film differ from “Hins Me Time”?+

Where “Hins Me Time” has an elegant, unhurried quality, Blanc Tasting Bar is more energetic. It focuses on L’Atelier 1664’s interactive tasting bar, showing Hins Cheung taking part in mixology and interacting with the bartender. The lighter, more playful editing communicates 1664 Blanc’s lemon character and social setting through the “Good Taste with a Twist” theme.

How did Darkroom Studio film the drinks and mixology sequences?+

Beverage filming aims to make the drink feel inviting. We used macro cinematography and high-speed filming to capture details such as clinking ice, bubbles rising as the drink was poured and the spray released by twisting lemon peel. The venue’s recognisable blue lighting gave these moments a cool, polished visual treatment.

What can an experience-led short film communicate about a multisensory event?+

L’Atelier 1664 combined its photographic settings with a broader sensory experience. Colour and movement, together with sounds such as ice and bubbles, suggested aspects of taste and aroma through the screen. This immersive content was intended to encourage curiosity about the tasting experience introduced by Hins Cheung.
