Kowloon Dairy — From Our Family To Yours: A CGI Brand Film
Use this as a referenceProject background: a fresh interpretation of a familiar brand
Kowloon Dairy is part of Hong Kong's collective memory. The brand wanted a new visual language to reaffirm its commitment to quality and family. For the ‘From Our Family To Yours’ campaign, Darkroom Studio was commissioned to create a CGI film that presented the idea of fresh daily deliveries in an imaginative way, while retaining the familiarity that Hong Kong audiences associate with the brand.
Visual approach: an imaginative journey through the city
To catch attention within a short social media film, we used computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create a setting that feels both familiar and imaginative:
An iconic symbol: We recreated Kowloon Dairy's classic glass milk bottle in 3D, retaining its recognisable gold cap and glass texture. Detailed texture rendering brings out condensation on the glass and the white milk in sunlight, recalling the taste and sensation of freshness.
City and connection: In the film, an oversized glass bottle floats above Victoria Harbour against the familiar Hong Kong skyline. Beyond the visual spectacle, it represents Kowloon Dairy's connection with families on both sides of the harbour and its presence in their lives over the years.
Lighting and mood: Naturalistic lighting creates a warm, hopeful morning atmosphere. Alongside the theme of growing together, it expresses the brand's reassuring, family-centred character.
Creative outcome: connecting across generations
The CGI film brings a traditional product into a contemporary social media format. By combining familiar brand imagery with modern CGI, the work presents Kowloon Dairy's focus on freshness and quality while inviting a new generation of young families to connect with the brand.

Production breakdown
Objective
Use CGI and 3D animation to create product imagery that would be difficult to achieve through live action alone.
Challenge
A CGI product film needs brand recognition, product accuracy and visual freshness. Effects should serve the commercial message.
Approach
- Defined the product's role in the scene before designing the short-form visual rhythm.
- Used 3D animation to control product movement, space and camera behavior beyond live-action limits.
- Focused finishing on texture, pacing and platform fit so the CGI created product recall rather than decoration.
Deliverables
- CGI product film
- 3D animation shots
- Social video versions
- Product visual assets
Reference value
Relevant for product launches, FMCG packaging, impossible camera moves and controlled product imagery.
Q&A
What is the creative concept behind this Kowloon Dairy film?+
The film centres on ‘From Our Family to Yours’. Warm, flowing CGI animation depicts the journey of fresh milk from the farm to Hong Kong families. Darkroom Studio uses 3D imagery to recreate the familiar milk bottle and delivery vehicle, connecting the brand's heritage with modern family life and its message of safety and reliability.
Why use CGI and 3D animation for this brand film?+
Compared with live-action filming, CGI offers greater freedom to create an imaginative setting with a consistent visual style. For this project, liquid simulation helps convey the smooth texture of milk, while the animated world gives a familiar Hong Kong brand a contemporary feel. It also provides control over details that can be difficult to manage when filming real liquids.
How can a CGI film support the marketing of an established brand?+
CGI gives established brands another visual language for communicating with younger audiences on social media. Combining recognisable brand heritage with contemporary production techniques can support a fresh presentation without discarding the qualities audiences already know. Its value depends on how well the creative approach serves the brand and campaign.
When is CGI right for a product video?+
When the product needs impossible movement, a controlled environment, scale shifts or a clean visual world that live action cannot easily provide.
Is CGI always more expensive than live action?+
No. Cost depends on shot count, model complexity, texture requirements and revision depth.
