Henderson Land — Harvest Above: A Rooftop Harvest

Use this as a reference

Project Background: Green Learning Through Community Collaboration

In support of the government’s Strive and Rise Programme, Henderson Land opened its Harvest Above urban farm on the roof of H Zentre. Darkroom Studio was commissioned to document the event, showing how a company can bring government and community participants together and use commercial space to introduce lower-carbon ways of living.

Visual Approach: A Complete Farm-to-Table Experience

Fresh, natural colour connected the views of Victoria Harbour with the growing rooftop farm:

Participation by Government and Business Representatives: The film documented Mr Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration, and Henderson Land Executive Director Mr Augustine Wong taking part in the farming activities. Harvesting beetroot and lettuce alongside programme participants, they became part of a shared experience involving government, business and the community.

A Rooftop Farming Contrast: Images of participants harvesting produce against a skyline of tall buildings highlighted H Zentre’s role as an urban green space.

Experiential Storytelling: The film followed the full journey from outdoor harvesting to indoor salad-making, presenting the pleasure of a hands-on farm-to-table experience.

In Use: Telling a CSR Story

The film brought the corporate event into a people-focused CSR story. Alongside showing the range of facilities at H Zentre, it communicated Henderson Land’s stated commitment to environmental protection and opportunities for the next generation.

Q&A

What was the background and central message of the Harvest Above event?+

The event formed part of Henderson Land’s participation in the government’s Strive and Rise Programme, held at the Harvest Above urban farm on the roof of H Zentre. The film records how the company opened its commercial space to programme participants and government representatives, including Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki, for a shared experience of lower-carbon living. It communicates the company’s commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles and the development of the next generation.

How did Darkroom Studio convey the atmosphere of an urban green space?+

We used a strong visual contrast. Participants harvested beetroot and lettuce against Victoria Harbour and its high-rise buildings, placing city life and nature in the same frame. A fresh, natural colour treatment gave the scenes a bright, energetic atmosphere and highlighted the setting at H Zentre.

How did you approach an event involving senior government and business representatives?+

The focus was on moments of shared participation between government, business and the community. We recorded Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki and Henderson Land Executive Director Augustine Wong farming and preparing salads alongside the participants. These informal interactions gave the film a personal dimension beyond the speeches, shaping the event into a people-centred CSR story.
