Edrington, whose portfolio includes The Macallan and Highland Park, created a new Hong Kong workplace at Pacific Place in Admiralty that brought working and social spaces together. Darkroom Studio was commissioned to photograph the details of a setting combining the group’s brand character with the idea of work-life harmony.

Photography Approach: Space and Light in Conversation

Our team focused on material, atmosphere and careful composition to explain the design:

Spatial Depth: Wide-angle views and controlled depth of field conveyed the openness of collaborative work areas while retaining layers within each image. The photographs also showed the daylight available in the Pacific Place setting.

The Bar as a Focal Point: The workplace’s dedicated bar was central to the design. Light emphasised the glass surfaces of bottles and the grain of the bar’s timber, bringing the working environment and the group’s drinks portfolio into the same image with a relaxed social character.

People Within the Space: Lifestyle photographs recorded natural interactions between employees, giving the still images a sense of the workplace’s active, welcoming culture.

In Use: A Set of Workplace Images

The photographs connected Edrington’s brand identity with the details of the fit-out. They also provided material for Swire Properties to show the different workplace possibilities within its “Global Business Hub” presentation.

Q&A

What design character did this office photography project explore?+

Edrington is an international group with drinks brands including The Macallan. The photographs focused on the contemporary, carefully finished character of its new Pacific Place office. Bar and lounge elements, restrained colours and rich material textures connected the workplace with the group’s drinks portfolio.

What technical challenges arose when photographing this corporate interior?+

Mixed lighting and reflective surfaces required particular attention. Glass bottle displays and full-height windows called for precise architectural photography techniques to balance artificial interior light with daylight. Controlling reflections and revealing materials such as timber and leather helped communicate the design and the depth of the space.

Why do international companies commission professional workplace photography?+

A workplace makes aspects of a company’s culture visible. For a brand such as Edrington, interior photographs can serve both as a record of the fit-out and as employer-branding material. They give colleagues at the global headquarters, clients and prospective employees a view of the working environment and the thought behind its design.
