Dyson: From Product Launches to In-Depth Tutorials
Use this as a referenceProject background: making complex technology understandable
Dyson's technology presents a communication challenge: how do you show airflow and processes that people cannot normally see? Darkroom Studio developed different video approaches for the products and their marketing stages, connecting eight films into a coordinated set of communication materials.
Approach one: introducing a different way to clean
For the Dyson V11™, we produced a comparison film that places it alongside a conventional broom. Split-screen images and visual effects representing fine dust illustrate the cleaning differences presented in the campaign, including its message about dust being disturbed and captured.
Approach two: making the technology visible
To explain the V11 High Torque cleaner head and its Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) technology, close-up filming and sound design highlight changes in motor sound on different surfaces. A demonstration of the soft roller cleaner head for hard floors adds a practical view of how the attachments are used.
Approach three: lightness and everyday use
For the V8 Slim™ and Digital Slim™ ranges introduced for Asian markets, the focus shifts to ergonomics and lightness. An exploded-view animation presents the campaign's stated thirty per cent weight reduction, while low camera angles show access beneath furniture. These scenes connect the design discussion with the needs of smaller homes.
Approach four: helping viewers compare models
For viewers considering different models, we produced a V8 Slim versus Digital Slim buying guide. Flat-lay arrangements, weight demonstrations and accessory comparisons explain the differences presented in the film, including the interchangeable-battery feature. The format gives viewers a structured basis for comparing the models.
Creative outcome: a coordinated product-video library
The series provides material for product launches, product explanation and ongoing user guidance. Its different formats can support communication across Dyson's website, e-commerce and retail channels, from the first introduction to a product through to understanding its operation.

Q&A
How can a film explain complex technology in a household product?+
Darkroom Studio uses the idea of making the invisible visible. For example, the explanation of the V11's DLS technology combines narration with CGI animation to illustrate internal processes, together with sound design that draws attention to changes in the motor's operation. The combination gives an abstract engineering idea a visual and audible reference.
How should videos differ across the stages of a customer's experience?+
The Dyson films cover three broad purposes: Using the product: Attachment and cleaning tutorials explain practical operation and provide reference material for existing users. Discovering the product: The V11 and broom comparison introduces the campaign's discussion of dust disturbance and cleaning methods. Comparing options: The V8 Slim and Digital Slim guide uses figures and flat-lay views of accessories to support a structured comparison.
How can a film show design features intended for Asian markets?+
The V8 Slim and Digital Slim films place particular emphasis on ergonomics. Everyday scenes show a user lifting the machine with one hand to reach a high area, or using an attachment to reach beneath a low sofa. These situations connect the discussion of lightness and handling with compact living spaces and practical storage needs.
