Canon EOS M100: A Girl’s Mini Adventure

Use this as a reference

The Brief: A Camera for Everyday Adventures

The Canon EOS M100 campaign focused on a compact body and a fashion-conscious design for its female audience. Darkroom Studio was commissioned to place the technology within a warm, recognisable lifestyle story. A short trip takes the protagonist between the city and nature, presenting the camera as a portable companion for noticing and recording everyday moments.

The Approach: Light, Airy Lifestyle Images

The visual treatment uses softness and breathing space to reflect the campaign’s lifestyle positioning:

Natural Light and an Airy Colour Grade: Natural-light filming is paired with a low-contrast grade and bright, open tones. The look draws on Japanese lifestyle photography and connects the protagonist’s relaxed manner with the camera’s compact design.

Everyday Scenes: Rather than presenting a list of specifications, the camera follows the protagonist pausing in a café, walking through the streets and taking selfies. These everyday moments introduce the product’s flip-up touchscreen and Self Portrait mode 。

Lightweight Camera Movement: Handheld filming and a lightweight stabiliser create an easy, unhurried rhythm that reflects the product’s portability.

The Campaign Focus: Photography as Part of Daily Life

The film uses a personal story to introduce the camera alongside a way of seeing everyday life. Functions sit within the journey, presenting the EOS M100 as something to carry, use and enjoy rather than as a separate piece of technical equipment.

Q&A

How does the airy visual style support the campaign’s intended audience?+

For the EOS M100’s female-focused campaign, Darkroom Studio used a Japanese-inspired colour grade. Low contrast, bright soft tones and natural light create a fresh, relaxed atmosphere. The treatment reflects the camera’s lightweight styling and presents photography as an accessible part of daily life.

How does the short-trip story demonstrate the camera’s features?+

Instead of a specification-led presentation, the film follows a vlog-style journey. The protagonist moves between the city and nature, taking selfies and photographing food and scenery. These situations introduce the camera’s flip-up screen and touch autofocus in context, showing how the functions can fit into a day out.

Why use a lifestyle film to introduce an entry-level camera?+

A lifestyle film can help a new user picture the experience of taking photographs, alongside the technical specifications. This film presents an aspirational everyday lifestyle, showing small moments worth recording and positioning the camera as a personal accessory for the journey.
