Darkroom Studio

Dior Beauty — Rouge Blush: Couture Colour in Motion

Use this as a reference

The Brief: Colour Inspired by Rouge Dior

Rouge Blush takes its visual cue from the Rouge Dior lipstick range. Darkroom Studio was commissioned to create a promotional short film for the 2019 campaign, using images to express the collection’s couture character and saturated colour.

The Approach: Colour, Texture and Contrast

The film uses a pared-back but striking visual approach within a running time of just over 20 seconds:

Macro Texture: Close-ups reveal the blush powder and embossed surface. Light across the product picks out the different appearances of matte and satin finishes, giving the viewer a detailed impression of its texture.

An Editorial Rhythm: Clean, brisk editing works with the sounds of the compact opening and closing and the brush moving across it. These small sensory details suggest the atmosphere of backstage make-up preparation.

A Dark Setting for Colour: A deep black background contrasts with the midnight-blue packaging and blush shades, keeping attention on the product and Dior’s visual identity.

The Finished Film: Beauty as a Fashion Object

The short film presents the make-up as both a product and a designed object. Texture, colour and packaging provide the focus of a visual piece suited to the collection’s social-media presentation.

Q&A

How does the film show the texture of couture-inspired make-up?+

The approach balances product detail with a polished beauty-film aesthetic. Darkroom Studio uses macro cinematography to reveal the powder’s fine surface and shimmer. Particular attention is given to colour grading to keep shades, including 999 Red, consistent with the intended product presentation and to show the colour and texture clearly.

What role does lighting play in filming beauty products?+

Lighting shapes the film’s editorial character. We use an editorial-style lighting approach, with softboxes and catchlights to define the model’s features. Controlled reflections also outline the compact’s dark finish and metallic details, bringing attention to the packaging and its form.

Why use a short film for a beauty-product launch?+

The film uses a fast-paced and visually led edit to introduce the product within a short social-media viewing window. Swatches, make-up looks and product close-ups are brought together to show the collection clearly and give interested viewers a reason to explore it further.
