Supernova HK: Music, Talent and Live Performance
Use this as a referenceProject background: a platform for emerging performers
Supernova HK gives young people in Hong Kong a platform to share their musical talent. Darkroom Studio was commissioned to produce a two-minute highlight film, bringing together the intensity of the competition and the performers' commitment to music.
Visual approach: connecting light and rhythm
The edit connects the sound of the event with its visual energy:
High-energy moments: Set to the driving rhythm of ‘Take Me Home’, the edit moves between different performances. Close attention to each act captures both expressive singing and energetic song-and-dance sequences.
The stage atmosphere: We use the event's backlighting, beams and haze to convey the performers' presence on stage. Audience shots — waving light sticks, cheering and responding to the acts — show the exchange between the stage and the crowd.
Personal moments: The cameras also record backstage preparations, nervous anticipation, mutual encouragement and the emotions at the curtain call. These moments give the performance record a story about ambition and development.
Creative outcome: a record of shared musical enthusiasm
The highlight film brings participants and supporters together in a shareable record of the event. It provides material for introducing Supernova HK and its atmosphere to young people interested in future editions.

Q&A
What does the Supernova HK highlight film record?+
The film records the final of the inter-school singing competition. It brings together performers on stage, the judges' attentive reactions and the audience's response. Darkroom Studio condenses the event's anticipation and intensity into a short highlights format.
What matters technically when filming a concert or singing competition?+
Stage filming requires close attention to changing light and musical timing. We use a multi-camera setup that combines wide views of the stage and lighting with longer-lens shots of performers' expressions. In post-production, we also focus on sound design, bringing live sound and the accompanying music together in the edit.
Why make a professional highlight film for a stage event?+
For a recurring competition such as Supernova HK, a highlight film provides an introduction for future participants, potential sponsors and music audiences. Selected stage and backstage moments communicate the event's format, atmosphere and scale in a form suited to sharing online.
